Man in Court for alleged theft in Abuja

A grade I Area Court, sitting in kubwa Abuja, has adjourned the case of  Samuel Joshua a 35 old who was alleged  for criminal trespass and theft to  until November three for hearing. Joshua appeared before the court on Wednesday  

Chinedu Agada, the prosecuting informed the court that the perpetrator trespassed into a shop at Kubwa on Oct. 3 and stole a Techno cell phone valued at N35, 000. He said that the plaintiff, Amina Abubakar reported the matter at Kubwa Police Station on 3rd October, 2020

Agada said that the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty. The defence counsel, Taiye Okoya, pleaded the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, citing Sections 162 and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

Okoya said his client should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise and urged the court to exercise its discretion judiciously.

The judge, Mr Muhammad Adamu, acknowledged the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum. He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce a means of identification.
