The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada has urged women of all categories to avail themselves of the many platforms positioned by the State government for financial independence.
The Commissioner gave the charge during the end of a 7-day virtual entrepreneurial master class training tagged “She Works Here Accelerator”
The programme was organised by SME-NG and the Bank of Industry in collaboration with the Lagos State Government for female small business owners.
While applauding the initiative adopted by Ms Thelma Ekiyor, the CEO of EbiMarket Place, Dada said the programmess of the organization aligned with the State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.
She stated “the Lagos State Government is committed to promoting women development and poverty reduction as a means to attaining Sustainable Developmental Goals.
“The government is ever ready to partner with NGOs, public and private organisations, that are targeted at women emancipation and children development across the State.
“The participants should take advantage of the business tips and entrepreneurial strategies they have been taught.
“The purpose of the workshop will only be accomplished when you all put all you have learnt into practice, as we all know SMEs are the backbone of every economy across the world’.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary WAPA; Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, enjoined for extensive use of the knowledge garnered, considering the move as key to break the poverty cycle that is prevalent in the African society.
“The focus is to train women on financial literacy after which they will be on- boarded to the Ebi – Market place.
“Particularly, the initiative is to enhance innovations amongst the Lagos citizenry as an investment platform,” she said.
Also speaking, Thelma Ekiyor said that the workshop is an investment readiness accelerator programme aimed at connecting entrepreneurs to financial literacy, even as it avails them of business strategies to help them become successful entrepreneurs.
She said”: She Works Here Accelerator programme, is Nigeria’s first non-technical focused All Women’s Accelerator – Built on 4 pillars – Training by an experienced Faculty, Linking with Business Mentor, Peer Learning and Connecting these women owned businesses to finance.
“The goal of the acceleration program is to improve the capacities of women entrepreneurs and build a pipeline of investment ready women owned businesses, with about 170 Lagos State-based women entrepreneurs registered for the training.”
Speaking further, Ekiyor reiterated that SME.NG is a gender lens impact investing company, which focus is to support women entrepreneurs in Nigeria, through a blended model of financing, grants, debts and equity financing opportunities.
