ENDSARS: Buhari committed to meet protesters’ demands – Police Minister


The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi has said there are sincere efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari”s led administration, to proffer sustainable solutions to the demands of our protesting citizens.”

The Minister also assured that, the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria cannot be compromised.

Dingyadi, disclosed this in Sokoto on Sunday, during a Ministerial Press briefing on the security situation in the country, sequel to the recent violent #ENDSARS protests in some parts of the country .

He said, ” Let me start by extending warm courtesy to Nigerians at home and those in the diaspora,and further convey goverment’s deep regrets over circumstances which led to #ENDSARS protests in parts of the country.

” I am also grateful to the media for giving us the platform to intimate Nigerians and the International community of sincere efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari”s led administration, to proffer sustainable solutions to the demands of our protesting citizens.”

Dingyadi disclosed that, the voice of the protesters have been heard by governments at all levels, including the immediate disbandment of the SARS unit.

According to Dingyadi, the initial intentions of the protesters was sincere, but, the protests were later hijacked by some egocentric and unpatriotic individuals in the country.

The Minister stated: ” the now famous #End SARS and other demands code named 5for5 have been acceded to by President Muhammadu Buhari for full implementation.

” This is to the extent that ,Mr President himself personally directed the disbandment of SARS,being the first of its kind in Nigeria .

Dingyadi said that, the protests were hijacked by some egocentric and unpatriotic individuals,to smear the good image of the Federal Government and that of her citizens.

” They took over the protests to achieve certain ulterior motives, but, Nigeria is bigger than all of us and the unity and progress of this country cannot be compromised by anybody, particularly a democratic government being led by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The Police Affairs Minister vowed that,anybody found wanting will be brought to book , while the Federal Government was fully committed to securing the lives and properties of all law abiding cizitens.

Meanwhile, the Minister has held a stakeholders’ meeting with Chief Imams and other Ulamas from across Sokoto State, where he extended the appreciation of President Muhammadu Buhari to them.

The Minister said that, the President cherishes the invaluable efforts of the Ulamas, through sustained fervent prayers and sermons.

According to the Minister , the Federal Government regrets the loss of lives and properties of Nigerians as a result of the hijacking of the #ENDSARS protests, by some enemies of the peace and unity of Nigeria.

Dingyadi appealed to the Ulamas to sustain the tempo of their prayers and sermons, adding that, prayers were potent weapons to the myriad of formidable problems plaguing Nigeria .

A cross section of the religious leaders who spoke commended the President, through the Minister, for convening the meeting.
