Sokoto State Government has commenced the distribution of Federal government’s COVID-19 Palliative to the intended beneficiaries at Isa, Sabon-Birni and Gada Local Government areas of the State.
The distribution is being carry out through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA ), according to the agency’s Public Relations officer, Ghani Abdullahi in a statement made available to Journalists in Sokoto.
It quoted Special Adviser to Governor Tambuwal on Relief and Rehabilitation in the state, Hon. Zubairu Magaji Albadau saying that other Local Government Areas will recieve their own share of the palliative on Saturday and Sunday.
“The distribution were done in the presence of the three (3) Local Government Council Caretakers of Isa (Hon. Nasiru Muhammed Awaza), Sabon-Birni (Hon. Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga) and that of Gada (Hon. Attahiru Abdullahi Gada) LGAs respectively.”
While flagging-off the distribution, the Special Adviser urged the beneficiaries to utilise the relief materials they received judiciously as it is meant to cushion the effect of COVID-19 in the state.
Those witnessed the distribution exercise include thr representatives Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Department of Security Service (DSS) and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Recall that the Federal Government last month handed over to Sokoto State Government COVID-19 palliative through the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for onward distribution to vulnerable persons affected by the recent restriction of movement to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the state.
The palliative brought for distribution are: 1, 701.6 Metric tonnes of Maize. (about 57 trailer load), 173.10 Metric tonnes of Millet (about 6 trailer load) and
1,785 Metric tonnes of Sorghum (59½ trailer load). These food items are meant to cater for 80, 405 households.
