A two-day training for members of the Steering Committee on Food and Nutrition was held on November 2 -3, 2020, at the Conference Hall of Ministry of Budget and Planning in Birnin, Kebbi.
The training was facilitated by the USAID Integrated Health Program focused on the National Policy on Food and Nutrition Policy. The meeting’s objectives was in response to the urgent need for scaling up high-impact and cost-effective nutrition interventions in Kebbi state.
Kebbi State has the highest stunting rate in the country at 66% for children under 5 years of age compared to the national average of 37% (NDHS,2018).
Yet until recently, the State Committee on Food and Nutrition which is charged with coordination Food and Nutrition Initiatives remained dormant.
The orientation also provided opportunity to review achievements in Food and Nutrition interventions and annual operational plans on Food and Nutrition in relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies and ways to address identified challenges.
The USAID Integrated Health Program in Kebbi was presented with an Award of Excellence by Oxfam in recognition of its effort and contributions towards improving Food and Nutrition Security in the State.
